As a mom, you know how important it is to capture the memories of your family. However, planning a family photo shoot can be an overwhelming task. There are so many things to consider and it’s hard to know where to start. Here are our 5 family photo tips for the perfect family photo shoot in Orlando.
Your family session should showcase how you interact with each other. Keeping it simple and classic. You don’t want to look back at your family album and realize all the props you utilized are overwhelming, taking away from your family portraits.
Also, another aspect to consider in regards to “less is more” : It’s better to have 30-45 minutes where everyone is happy and relaxed, instead of trying to do a 2 – 3 hour family photo shoot with 2 locations because after a while, the kids are no longer happy campers.
When choosing the perfect family photo shoot outfits, pick 2 colors that look great together. Coordinating your outfits to compliment each other is much more flattering than matching colors.
Also, adding accent pieces such as hats, scarves, and jackets create more unique images and give you more variety. These accent pieces are super helpful when you aren’t sure of what to do with your hands. It gives you something to use

Next on my list of family photo tips is having snacks for the kids on hand. Hunger can lead to crankiness and having their favorite toy available is a great way to keep them engagement throughout your family photo shoot.
Although sunset and sunrise are the best times to shoot, planning your family photo session around meal or nap time is just as important. Photo sessions can be a bit overwhelming, especially for children since we are taking them out of their routine. It’s crucial to make it as comfortable as possible for them. If our kids are happy, so are our parents.
Next in my family photo tips is weather. Check the weather forecast 72 hours before your session. Make sure you are not dressed “To the Nines” for your outdoor Florida afternoon portrait session if it’s 95 degrees outside. If weather calls for it, switch up your wardrobe and ALWAYS have a plan B for attire. We all love a good dancing in the rain image. Just make sure that you’re wearing something that is comfortable if you are slightly wet while wearing it.
We cannot stress this ENOUGH! These are memories you will have for the rest of your lives. When you look back, you want to remember the BIG moments down to the smallest of the day. If something does not go the way you were hoping, have that conversation with your photographer. Chances are if you are not communicating with us, we can read it on your face and by your body language. If you need to take a break from shooting, the kids need to hang out and play for a bit, that is completely ok! Your family session is about you, just let us know. WE GOT YOU!
